You're 14 years old, in bed with the hottie you've been thinking about for weeks, and suddenly things are moving a bit too fast. You're panicking and not sure of anything other than you've got roughly 15 seconds before your jeans end up in a heap on the floor. So what do you do? Offer them a cup of tea, right? Sounds ridiculous, but that's exactly what I was told to teach Year 9 students as part of a peer educator scheme during Sixth Form. Is it any wonder we've got the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe? It's time for Sex Education to grow up. The government constantly talks about improving lessons, but 50% of students still rate the teaching in their school as poor, very poor or average. If we're really going to tackle teenagers getting pregnant and contracting STDs, we've got to get serious about sex.
