The results of Shereece’s sex survey are in and they’re pretty amazing..
To highlight the issues at the heart of her Let’s Talk About Sex campaign, Shereece conducted a survey of schools all around the UK. The questions all related to Sex and Relationships education (SRE).
You can download her report here.
The results were quite incredible. Here are some of the headlines:
- 49% of pupils questioned felt they had received too little Sex and Relationships Education at school.
- 56% of pupils are most likely to learn about sex from their friends rather than a teacher.
- 49% of pupils say they felt awkward asking questions in SRE lessons taught by teachers, compared to just 8% that felt awkward asking questions to a trained young person.
- 82% wanted sex and relationships education to come from a trained young person.
The survey, which was officiated by ComRes, suggests that the current style of SRE lessons are not meeting young people’s needs. In other words: Shereece is right!
The majority of students clearly want SRE lessons to be taught by a trained young person. This is amazing.
Congrats on a brilliant survey, Shereece. Let’s hope it leads to massive change.
